It truly is like having a child in some ways! Especially the beginning. Where can I see info Abt the warrior heart ranch? I took Skie's course and would love an opportunity to take it to the next level!
My Bedlington Terrier, Dahlia had 6 puppies last December. I knew I’d be giving up winter travel and was in for some extra work but nothing could prepare me for the extremes of love pouring through me to each pup or coming face to face with my control issues and knowing letting go was the only path to stability or the heart swelling/heart wrenching process of matching them with new loving families and sending 5 of them to the far corners of the US! I couldn’t have found a more perfect spiritual up-leveling course for myself! And yes! the training aspect continues my lessons in tuning into energy, letting go of assumptions, and working in harmony with the positive intent that lies behind all actions (furry-instigated or other). I’ll have to look Jane up! Taos is not too far for a good visit with a dog whisperer! Enjoy your summer! - Lisa Rae
My Aussie is almost 2 now, and I do not miss age 5 - 9 months! You're kind of blessed that your trainer is handling month 6-8 for you, which I find to be peak velociraptor + goldfish mode. My girl would throw herself at what she wanted over and over, with the same result of "that doesn't work to get what you want, you're still on a tether sweetheart" but she was PERSISTENT. I got the last puppy in the litter, the one that was scaling her 3 foot puppy gate at 6 weeks old, that all her littermates followed around instead of their dam because my girl was *doing things*.
She's settled into a much more manageable form of endless energy, she is able to settle and know that more play time will come tomorrow on the days that I'm not able to get her out much. But boy howdy you know she's been inside all day, she really opens it up when you start to play!
I'm so grateful any time a high drive breed has an owner who understands the full breadth of what they signed up for. When you're prepared to handle that, they are absolutely incredible companions if they have a stable temperament and good training such that they're safe to take with you anywhere.
I cried when I dropped my "dogther" (the joke title my spouse and I use, because we're not having children and this is it for us) at my friend's house when I went on vacation for two weeks. It really felt like I was leaving a piece of my heart and soul behind.
I am lucky enough to be able to take my dog to work with me, and it's made such a positive impact on my mental health to always have her by my side, ready to play and full of joy nearly every moment of her life. I wish I were close enough to meet you two! And it would be an incredible experience to be able to share my dog rearing knowledge with my mentor, what a full circle experience! Here's a reminder that you have another dog trainer in your corner for discussing dog rearing, I'd love to talk dogs with you.
I have four German shepherds. I had the idea to breed my first GS, and she had nine puppies, which was a lot of work. I kept three. They test my patience daily, make me laugh and cry, and definitely make life more interesting around the house.
I had a part border collie Jimi (as in Hendrix found in Hendricks park) and I had to take him and me for a 2-3 mile run every morning! They’re working dogs and such a joy~~> beautiful Mystic you have there~~ he lived to be 16~ a great good dog!
Aww, so sweet! I remember the exhaustion of the puppy phase, and feeling like a mom on the first day of kindergarten when I dropped her off at Barking Springs "stayaway camp" for the first time. Definitely cried! Wishing you and Misty wonderful time apart and reunion on the other side.
Aaw. May the pieces of your heart have fun running around and causing a ruckus until you meet again… 😘 Thank Goddess for Jane!
